Local graphic novelist Stan Yan will lead this ghoulish workshop. First, Stan will take your photo with a digital camera and print it out. Next, he’ll show you how to trace your photo using a pencil and a light box. Then, he’ll ask you to think about what type of zombie you want to be. Will you have festering sores? Will you have mutations or stitches? Will there be flies buzzing around your head? Finally, Stan will show you how to go over the sketch with marker. You’ll walk away with a cool piece of art to go on your wall and, maybe, an interest in further exploring cartooning.
A few years back, Stan Yan left a career in sales in the securities industry to pursue cartooning full-time. He’s the author of the graphic novel “The Wang”. He teaches summer camps, after-school programs, workshops, and is helping to develop a degree program in graphic storytelling as an adjunct faculty member at the Community College of Aurora. He also continues to illustrate the SubCulture webstrip, and write and color the REVVVelations webstrip. Recent credits include illustrating the comic book "The Adventures of Health Team 4" for Kaiser Permanente; writing Vincent Price Presents #33 for Bluewater Productions; and writing and drawing "Food Fright" for the Melting Pot restaurant.
